Australia has been welcomed as the 33rd member country in the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA).
The IHRA brings together governments and experts to combat Holocaust denial and antisemitism, and to share best practice on Holocaust education and remembrance.
The IHRA also plays a key role in sharing information on early warning signs of present-day genocide.
Australia's application for membership was unanimously endorsed at a meeting in Luxembourg on 4 June 2019.
IHRA member states noted the importance of Australia sharing its unique perspective on Holocaust education and remembrance. Australia, which took in a large number of Holocaust survivors in the aftermath of World War II, is the IHRA's first member from the Indo-Pacific region.
Australia's IHRA membership demonstrates our continuing commitment to combating antisemitism and protecting freedom of religion.
