I will visit China from 7-8 November to attend the 5th Australia-China Foreign and Strategic Dialogue, hosted by my Chinese counterpart, State Councillor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

I am looking forward to discussions with Minister Wang to enhance bilateral understanding and cooperation across the full range of Australia’s interests, spanning strategic, economic and people-to-people connections.

The dialogue will build on our discussions in the margins of the United National General Assembly Leaders Week in late September.

The Australian Government is committed to a constructive relationship with China, founded on shared interests and mutual respect.

Cooperation with China under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is a priority of the highest order for Australia, as was made clear in our Foreign Policy White Paper.

Our economic partnership continues to strengthen following the implementation of the China-Australia Free Trade Agreement, with trade, direct investment, and two-way education and tourism all at record levels.

The dialogue is an opportunity to discuss how we can strengthen cooperation and ensure we continue to advance regional security and prosperity in this period of rapid change.
