Today I announce the appointment of Ms Elizabeth Petrovic as Australia's next Ambassador to Croatia.

Australia and Croatia enjoy a warm relationship, underpinned by strong people-to-people links. The large Croatian Australian community enriches Australian society and provides an excellent foundation for business, academic and cultural exchanges between our two countries.

As members of the United Nations and NATO, Australia and Croatia work closely as partners in the promotion of international peace and security.

Australia looks forward to working with Croatia and other members of the European Union as we progress towards an Australia-EU Free Trade Agreement, which will expand our trade and investment, and boost prosperity in our countries.

Ms Petrovic is a career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). She has been the Regional Director (Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory) of the Australian Passport Office since 2014. She has served overseas as Deputy Head of Mission, Australian Embassy, Dili with an earlier posting at the Australian Embassy, Ankara. Ms Petrovic has also served as Adviser to the Minister for Foreign Affairs (2009-2010).

Ms Petrovic holds a Graduate Certificate in International Relations from the University of Queensland and a Bachelor of Arts from the Queensland University of Technology.

I thank outgoing Ambassador Ms Susan Cox OAM for her significant contribution since 2012 to advancing Australia's interests in Croatia.
