Diplomatic Appointment – Consul-General to Bali

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Kevin Rudd has today announced that Mr Brett Farmer is Australia’s new Consul-General to Bali.

Mr Farmer replaces Mr Lex Bartlem OAM who was Australia’s Consul-General since February 2009. He is expected to take up his appointment in December 2010.

Australia’s association with Bali is longstanding and growing. Our official, community and business links with the island province represent an important part of Australia’s broader relationship with Indonesia. A key role of the Consulate-General is to provide consular and passport services to Australians in Bali.

Mr Farmer is a career officer of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade with a strong background in consular services. He is currently Counsellor (Administration) and Consul-General at the Australian High Commission, New Delhi. Mr Farmer has previously served overseas in Hanoi, Abu Dhabi, Dhaka, Colombo, Manila, Bangkok, Dar es Salaam and Jakarta.
