Bombing of Danish Embassy in Islamabad
The Australian Government unreservedly condemns the car bombing earlier today outside the Danish Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan.
The bombing, which has killed at least four people, is a direct attack on two democracies, Pakistan and Denmark. The Australian Government extends its condolences to those affected by this attack.
Australia stands with Pakistan and Denmark in the fight against terrorism and extremism. This bombing is yet another extremist attack on law and order and security in Pakistan. We trust that the perpetrators of the attack will be brought to justice.
The residence of the Australian Defence Attaché to Pakistan was damaged in the attack, but he, his wife and his staff are safe. No staff of the Australian High Commission were injured.
The Australian High Commission is in contact with the Pakistani authorities to confirm that no other Australians were affected by the bombing.
Australians planning on traveling abroad are advised to read the latest travel advice available at www.smartraveller.gov.au.
Australia’s bilateral relationship with Pakistan is strong and we continue to support the Pakistan Government in its efforts to address security challenges.
