DIPLOMATIC APPOINTMENT: HIGH COMMISSIONER TO KIRIBATI
I have today announced the appointment of Mr Phillip David Allars as
Australian High Commissioner to Kiribati.
Mr Allars will replace Mr Stewart Duncan Brooks, who has been High Commissioner
since February 1994.
Australian relations with Kiribati are close and constructive, based on
our active aid program, significant economic and defence cooperation links,
and shared membership of regional bodies. Australia's High Commission in
Tarawa was established in 1981.
Mr Allars has served in Australian overseas missions in Saigon, Port Moresby,
Rome, Amman, Beirut, Chicago and Cairo (twice). Currently he is Counsellor
(Political and Economic) in Port Moresby.
Mr Allars is a graduate of the Australian National University in Canberra.
