Australia-Indonesia Institute Grants

  • Media release

Today I announce the recipients of 16 new grants funded by the Australia-Indonesia Institute. The Australia-Indonesia Institute grants program fosters links between Australia and Indonesia, increases cultural awareness and further strengthens the already close relationship between our nations.

Successful grant proposals include:

  • A Curtin University project to enhance the teaching of mathematics, science, technology and engineering in Indonesia;
  • A new dance work from Indonesian dancer, Rianto and Australian company Dance North, to be performed in both countries;
  • An Australia Indonesia Awards Project recognising Australian contributions to closer relations between Australia and Indonesia;
  • Introducing netball to Indonesia and promoting women's participation in sport;
  • A tour of Indonesia by Australian rap musicians, The Brothahood, who will entertain young Indonesian audiences and share their experiences as Muslims in Australia

I also thank retiring Institute Chair, Professor Tim Lindsey for his tireless contribution to the Institute over many years. He has shown unwavering dedication in working to increase cultural exchange and forge ever-closer relations with Indonesia.
