Celebration of Australia in Germany
Today I announce the Australian Government will host Australia now, a major celebration of Australia's creativity and innovation, in Germany in 2017.
Each year the Australian Government delivers a cultural diplomacy program in a country of strategic significance to raise our profile and build a better understanding of our country.
Germany is Australia's eleventh largest trading partner and fifth largest destination for foreign direct investment. Total two-way trade was worth $18.6 billion in 2015.
Australia now will deepen our relationship with Germany through a year-long program including performances by Bangarra Dance Theatre, Australian productions at the Berlin International Film Festival, visual art exhibitions, and dialogues on civic spaces, urban renewal, innovation and science.
The program will also highlight Australia's tourism industry and attractions, engage our science and technology innovators, and promote our significant capability in the education and research sectors.
We will showcase our creative and innovative industries and promote Australian entrepreneurs and businesses as key growth platform for our engagement with Germany.
