2017 Elizabeth O’Neill Journalism Award
TodayI announce that applicationsare open for the 2017 Elizabeth O'Neill Journalism Award.
The Award provides anopportunity for one Australian and one Indonesian journalist to undertake anexchange visit of up to two weeks, to build a stronger understanding andappreciation of both countries. This will be a fully-funded program, tailoredto journalists' interests and areas of expertise.
The Award commemorates thedistinguished career of Elizabeth O'Neill OAM, who died in Indonesia in theservice of the Australia Government on 7 March 2007. It builds on her tirelesswork to foster mutual understanding between Australia and Indonesia byencouraging accurate and informed media coverage.
Since the program began in2007, Award recipients have reported on a range of issues including politics,trade and business, social change and development issues, agriculture, religionand education.
Indonesia is one of ourmost important bilateral partners. We work closely together on issues of sharedstrategic concern such as countering terrorism and extremism. Our twogovernments are currently negotiating a trade agreement which will provideopportunities to expandtwo-way trade and investment.
The Elizabeth O'NeillJournalism Award is open to high achieving journalists from print, radio,television and online media organisations. Applicants must be Australiancitizens resident in Australia or Indonesian citizens resident in Indonesia,and available to travel in the first half of 2017.
