Strengthening Australia-Latin America Relations

  • Media release

I am pleased to announce the recipients of 17 new grants funded by the Council on Australia-Latin America Relations (COALAR).

COALAR was established in 2001 by the Australian Government to promote closer engagement between Australia and Latin America in business, education, sustainability, tourism and culture.

Successful projects in 2017-18 include:

  • A new television series "The Airport Economist in Latin America", hosted by Australian economist Tim Harcourt. Episodes will offer advice to Australian businesses interested in expanding into markets in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Ecuador and Uruguay;
  • A Sydney Dance Company tour of Argentina and Chile, showcasing the best of Australian contemporary dance;
  • Connecting Australian journalists with food security issues in Colombia, Mexico and Peru; and
  • A collaborative migration research project on the Latin American community in Australia.

The projects selected will encourage long-term collaborative relationships between individuals and institutions in Australia and Latin America.
