Council for Australian-Arab Relations grants

Today I announce the recipients of 20 new grants funded by the Council for Australian-Arab Relations (CAAR).

The CAAR grants program supports projects that build a greater awareness of each other's culture and celebrate and strengthen links between Australia and the Arab world. This round of grants totals over $400,000 and supports the Australian Government's economic and public diplomacy agenda.

Successful grant proposals include:

  • An exhibition of manuscripts and paintings by renowned Lebanese author and painter Kahlil Gibran at the Immigration Museum in Melbourne;
  • Deakin University hosting a delegation of Tunisian youth leaders, who will meet experts on Australia's democratic parliamentary system, and make field visits to Australian political and electoral institutions;
  • The Walkley Foundation hosting a delegation of five Kuwaiti journalists, who will visit Australia to research and undertake interviews, before producing stories on their experiences. The journalists will also build a network of contacts and sources for ongoing reporting;
  • Life Saving Victoria to send lifesaving and swimming specialists to Bahrain to build local capacity in lifesaving and swimming programs; and
  • Lebanese NRL coaches and match officials travelling to Sydney to participate in a series of placements with NRL clubs, the NSWRL Academy, the NRL Bunker, as well as technical educator courses on coaching and match officiating.
