Australia-Japan Foundation 2017 grants

TodayI congratulate the recipients of 50 new grants and three Publication Awardsfunded by the Australia-Japan Foundation (AJF).

TheAJF grants program has fostered the relationship between Australia and Japanfor more than 40 years. The Government will invest almost $1 million inprograms that encourage cross-cultural collaboration, and promote Australianscientific, academic and sporting excellence in Japan.

Successfulproposals for 2017-18 include:

  • Performancesby the Australian Chamber Orchestra in Tokyo led by Artistic Director RichardTognetti, as well as an educational exchange for Australian musicians;
  • Theintroduction of an Australian-style surf lifesaving competition that will honethe emergency management skills of Japan's lifesavers to help save more liveson Japan's beaches;
  • Collaborationbetween Curtin University and Akita University in developing educationalvirtual reality content for Australia's world-leading School of Mines;
  • ConnectingTouch Football Australia with Japan Touch Association to develop its businessmodel to help the sport flourish in Japan;
  • Anew program to link young farmers in Australia and Japan in post-disaster landcare; and
  • Aworld-class program promoting collaboration between Australian and Japanesedisabled artists.
