High Commissioner to Bangladesh

  • Media release

Today I announce the appointment of Ms Susan Ryle as Australia's next High Commissioner to the People's Republic of Bangladesh.

Australia and Bangladesh share a close relationship based on our growing trade and investment ties, longstanding development partnership, strong people-to-people links, and shared commitment to the peace, stability and prosperity of our region.

We are working together to find practical solutions to shared regional and global challenges such as climate change, regional maritime security and people smuggling.

Australia is working with the Interim Government led by Professor Muhammed Yunus to support a democratic and inclusive future for all Bangladeshis.

Ms Ryle is a career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and was most recently Director, Indian Ocean Programs. She has previously served overseas in Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea and Japan.

I thank former High Commissioner Jeremy Bruer and Acting High Commissioner Nardia Simpson for their contributions to advancing Australia's interests in Bangladesh since 2020.
