Consul-General in Chengdu

  • Media release

Today I announce the appointment of Ms Meaghan Shaw as Australia’s next Consul-General in Chengdu.

The Consulate-General in Chengdu covers China’s south-western provinces of Sichuan, Yunnan and Guizhou, as well as the municipality of Chongqing. The Consulate-General works to promote business and cultural ties in the region and provide consular support to Australians.

Australian companies in south-west China do business in industries such as agriculture, design, health care and logistics. The region is home to over 200 million people, representing a $2.7 trillion economy.

Ms Shaw joined the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) in 2013 and was most recently the Deputy Director of DFAT’s Victoria State Office. Prior to DFAT, Ms Shaw was a journalist and media adviser.

She has previously served overseas as First Secretary (Public Affairs) at the Australian Embassy in Beijing.

I thank outgoing Consul-General Adelle Neary for her contributions to advancing Australia’s interests in Chengdu since 2021.
