Consul-General in Guangzhou

  • Media release

Today I announce the appointment of Dr Timothy Kendall as Australia’s next Consul-General in Guangzhou.

The Consulate-General in Guangzhou is responsible for advancing Australia’s interests in Guangdong, Fujian, Hunan, Guangxi and Hainan.

Australia has longstanding ties with this growing region, including strong economic and extensive people-to-people and cultural links.

Southern China is a major market for Australian exports, accounting for 24 per cent of Australia’s total bilateral merchandise trade with China.

Dr Kendall is a career public servant and was most recently Acting Assistant Secretary, Southeast Asia Maritime Branch, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

He has previously served overseas in China and India.

I thank former Consul-General Anthony Aspden for his contributions to advancing Australia’s interests in Guangzhou.
