Ambassador to Spain

  • Media release

Today I announce the appointment of Ms Rosemary Morris-Castico as Australia’s next Ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain.

As Ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain, Ms Morris-Castico is also accredited to the Republic of Equatorial Guinea and the Principality of Andorra.

Australia and Spain have an enduring relationship grounded in robust trade and investment ties, close defence industry cooperation and a commitment to multilateralism.

Our countries cooperate closely to advance gender equality, promote human rights, support sustainable development and accelerate transition to the green economy.

Australia’s trade and investment relationship with Spain is growing rapidly, with Spanish companies contributing to the modernisation of Australia’s infrastructure, renewable energy and transport sectors.

Australian companies have a long history of exporting to Spanish markets and are increasingly investing in Spain’s energy, infrastructure and mining sectors.

Ms Morris-Castico is a senior career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and is currently Assistant Secretary, European Union Branch.

Ms Morris-Castico has previously served overseas as Chargé d’Affaires at the Australian Embassy in Madrid and had postings in the United States of America and Mexico.

I thank outgoing Ambassador Sophia McIntyre for her contributions to advancing Australia’s interests in Spain since 2020.
