Consul-General in Kolkata
Today I announce the appointment of Mr Hugh Boylan as Australia’s next Consul-General in Kolkata.
Australia and India are working together through our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and the Quad to promote an open, stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.
The Consulate-General in Kolkata plays a key role in furthering Australia's trade, investment and education interests in the eastern and northeast Indian states of West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Sikkim and Tripura.
Australia's economic links with West Bengal and neighbouring states are substantial and expanding, particularly in the mining equipment, technology and services sector.
Mr Boylan is a career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and was most recently Counsellor (Economic) at the Australian High Commission in New Delhi. He has also previously served overseas in Pakistan.
I thank outgoing Consul-General Ms Rowan Ainsworth for her contributions to advancing Australia’s interests in Kolkata since 2021.
