High Commissioner to Nauru

  • Media release

Today I announce the appointment of Ms Sara Moriarty as Australia’s next High Commissioner to the Republic of Nauru.

Nauru and Australia have a deep bilateral relationship founded on close cultural and personal connections between our people and an extensive history of cooperation.

We share a vision of a strong and united region. We believe in Pacific sovereignty, with the Pacific Island Forum leading the region, guided by the 2050 Strategy.

Australia is proud to be working with Nauru to deliver priorities in economic development, climate resilient infrastructure, maritime security, gender equality, education, and health.

Ms Moriarty is a career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and was most recently Director, First Nations Indo-Pacific and Global Interests.

She was previously High Commissioner to Samoa and has served twice in postings to  Indonesia.

I thank outgoing High Commissioner Dr Helen Cheney for her contributions to advancing Australia’s interests in Nauru since 2021.
