Ambassador to Mexico
Today I announce the appointment of Ms Rachel Moseley as Australia's next Ambassador to Mexico. Ms Moseley will also be accredited to Costa Rica, Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and the Dominican Republic.
Australia's close collaboration with Mexico in a range of multilateral groupings advances our shared global interests, including through the G20, APEC, OECD, WTO and the United Nations. Mexico is Australia's largest trading partner in Latin America with our total trade worth AUD4.4 billion in 2021-22.
Australia enjoys increasing economic links and people-to-people ties with Central America, Cuba and the Dominican Republic. Over 20,000 Australians were born in Mexico and Central America.
We are working closely with our partners in the region on shared interests including gender equality, climate change, and advancing First Nations engagement.
Ms Moseley is a senior career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and was most recently Assistant Secretary, Latin America and Eastern Europe Branch. She has previously served overseas in Mexico, Papua New Guinea, and Australia's Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Geneva.
I thank outgoing Chargé d'Affaires, Patricia Holmes, for her contributions to advancing Australia's interests in the region.
