Ambassador to Egypt

  • Media release

Today I announce the appointment of Mr Glenn Miles as Australia's next Ambassador to Egypt, with non-resident accreditation to Eritrea and Sudan.

Australia's longstanding relationship with Egypt is built on growing commercial relations, warm people-to-people links, strong institutional connections and cooperation on multilateral issues.

Our countries collaborate on regional and international security issues. As part of our commitment to assisting peace efforts across the region, we contribute Australian Defence Force personnel to the Multinational Force and Observers (MFO), which supervises the implementation of the Egypt-Israel Peace Treaty in the Sinai.

Mr Miles is a senior career officer with DFAT and was most recently Head of Mission, Australian Embassy, Beirut. He has previously served overseas as Head of Mission, Australian High Commission, Suva; Head of Mission, Australian Embassy, Kuwait City; Representative, Australian Representative Office, Ramallah and Deputy Head of Mission, Australian Embassy, Jordan. In Canberra he has served as Director, Northern and Central Europe Section, DFAT.

Mr Miles is a graduate from Deakin University and speaks Arabic. He is married with three adult children.

I thank outgoing Ambassador Neil Hawkins for his contributions to advancing Australia's interests in Egypt since 2015.
