Ukraine Peace Summit
- The Hon Bill Shorten MP, Minister for the National Disability Insurance Scheme, Minister for Government Services
On 15-16 June 2024, Minister for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and Government Services the Hon Bill Shorten MP will represent Australia at the Ukraine Peace Summit in Switzerland.
The inaugural Summit aims to develop a common understanding of a path towards a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, based on international law and the UN Charter.
The Albanese Labor Government is unwavering in its support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity following Russia’s illegal and immoral invasion.
Since the war began, Australia has committed nearly $1.1 billion in assistance to Ukraine. Most recently on 31 May, the Albanese Labor Government announced $31 million to help meet Ukraine’s energy and humanitarian needs.
Our overall support includes $880 million in military assistance and $85 million in humanitarian assistance. Over 1,200 targeted financial sanctions and trade measures have been imposed against Russia in response to its aggression against Ukraine.
We continue to work closely with our partners to assist Ukraine to end the war on its own terms and hold Russia to account for its illegal invasion.
Quotes from Minister Wong:
“Australia strongly supports Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and we will continue to support Ukraine to end the war on its own terms.
“We will continue to consistently condemn Russia's invasion, which is an attack on the UN Charter - a Charter which protects all nations, including Australia.”
Quotes from Minister Shorten:
“I am honoured to represent Australia at the Ukraine Peace Summit. I will emphasise our unwavering commitment to the Ukrainian people in the defence of their homeland.
“Australia will continue to work with international partners to hold Russia to account for its illegal and immoral invasion.”
