Statement on Dr Yang Jun
Today marks one year since Australian citizen, Dr Yang Jun, faced a closed trial in Beijing on national security charges.
One year on, Dr Yang is yet to learn the outcome.
The Australian Government is very concerned about this delay.
Since his detention on 19 January 2019, Dr Yang has had no access to his family, and only limited access to legal representation.
We continue to call for basic standards of justice, procedural fairness and humane treatment for Dr Yang, in accordance with international norms and China’s legal obligations.
We will continue to advocate for Dr Yang’s interests and wellbeing, and provide consular support to Dr Yang and his family.
