Consul-General in Papeete

  • Media release

Today I announce the appointment of Ms Alison Shea as Australia's next Consul-General in Papeete, French Polynesia.

Australia is committed to working closely with France and French Polynesia to strengthen our partnerships and to build a peaceful, prosperous and resilient Pacific.

We are building our bilateral relationship with French Polynesia by expanding education and people-to-people connections and working together on climate change, ocean conservation and other shared priorities for the Blue Pacific Continent.

We value French Polynesia's growing engagement in the region following its admission as a full member of the Pacific Islands Forum in 2016, and the contribution that French State institutions in French Polynesia make to humanitarian and disaster response, scientific research, maritime surveillance and law enforcement in the region.

Ms Shea is a career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and was most recently Deputy Head of Mission in Mauritius.

I thank outgoing Consul-General Claire Scott for her contributions to advancing Australia's interests in Papeete since opening the Consulate-General in May 2021.
