Consul-General in Noumea
Today I announce the appointment of Ms Annelise Young as Australia’s next Consul-General in Noumea. Ms Young will also have accreditation to Wallis and Futuna.
Australia and New Caledonia are Pacific family members.
Our longstanding ties are built on enduring community and trade and investment links. Two-way trade in merchandise and services was valued at almost $500 million in 2020.
Australia values New Caledonia’s increased engagement in the region following its admission as a full member of the Pacific Islands Forum in 2016.
A strong, united Pacific Islands Forum is central to protecting our shared interests in a peaceful, secure and resilient region.
Ms Young will also serve as Australia's Representative to the Noumea-headquartered Pacific Community.
Australia is a founding member and leading supporter of the Community’s mission to promote resilience, sustainable development and the empowerment of women and girls in the Pacific.
Ms Young is a career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and was most recently Director, ASEAN and Regional Programs section. She was also an Adviser to Foreign Minister Payne.
Ms Young has previously served overseas in Indonesia and New Caledonia.
I thank former Consul-General Alison Carrington for her contributions to advancing Australia’s interests in Noumea since 2019.
