  • Media release

Today I announce the appointment of Mr Paul Wilson as Australia's next Ambassador to the Republic of the Marshall Islands.

Australia and the Republic of the Marshall Islands are members of the Pacific family.

Our strong ties are built on longstanding defence and development cooperation, and in our work together advancing the interests of the Pacific and Small Island Developing States.

Australia values the leadership of the Republic of the Marshall Islands on climate advocacy, oceans management and conservation, and traditional culture.

We are proud to be working together to deliver outcomes in economic development, climate change adaptation, maritime security, women's empowerment, youth engagement and scholarships in the Republic of the Marshall Islands.

Mr Wilson is a career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and was most recently Deputy High Commissioner at the Australian High Commission in Suva.

He has previously served overseas as Australia's Consul-General in Noumea, as well as in Geneva and Paris and with the Peace Monitoring Group in Bougainville.

I thank former Ambassador Brek Batley for his contributions to advancing Australia's interests in the Marshall Islands since 2021.
