Ambassador to the Republic of Iraq
Today I announce the appointment of Mr Glenn Miles as Australia's next Ambassador to the Republic of Iraq.
Australia is committed to working with Iraq as it seeks to build a secure and prosperous future for its people, and cooperating to realise the significant potential for increased trade and investment between our two countries.
Australia and Iraq have a long history of partnership and cooperation, and strong community links with more than 90,000 Australian residents born in Iraq.
Mr Miles is a senior career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and was most recently Australia's Special Representative on Afghanistan in Doha.
He has previously served overseas as Head of Mission in Egypt, Lebanon and Kuwait, Head of the Australian Representative Office in Ramallah, and has had postings in Fiji, Jordan and Saudi Arabia.
I thank outgoing Ambassador Paula Ganly for her contributions to advancing Australia's interests in Iraq since 2021.
