Ambassador to Colombia
Today I announce the appointment of Ms Anna Chrisp as Australia's next Ambassador to the Republic of Colombia. Ms Chrisp will also be accredited to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
Australia and Colombia's strong bilateral relationship is underpinned by growing trade and investment ties. Two-way trade between our countries was worth nearly $850 million in 2021-22.
Our two countries continue to work closely on shared interests, including advancing gender equality, combating climate change and developing First Nations engagement.
We have strong people to people links, with over 38,000 Australians born in Colombia.
Australia and Colombia also enjoy a strong and vibrant education partnership. Colombia is now our fourth largest global market for international students, with nearly 30,000 Colombians studying in Australia in 2023.
Ms Chrisp is a career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and was most recently Director, Pacific Regional Organisations and Governance Section. She has previously served overseas in Egypt.
I thank outgoing Chargé d'Affaires Bernard Unkles for his contributions to advancing Australia's interests in Colombia since 2022.
