Ambassador to China

Today I announce the appointment of Mr Scott Dewar as Australia's next Ambassador to China.

Engagement between Australia and China has developed over more than 50 years of diplomatic relations.

Our countries continue to work towards a stable relationship under our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Mr Dewar is a senior career officer with the Australian Public Service and was most recently Deputy Secretary, International and Security Group, Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

He has previously served overseas as Consul-General in Honolulu and had postings in China and the Republic of Korea.

I thank outgoing Ambassador Graham Fletcher for his contributions to advancing Australia's interests in China since 2019.
