National Foundation for Australia-China Relations grants

  • Media release

I am pleased to announce recipients in the second National Foundation for Australia-China Relations competitive grants round and the opening of a new grants round.

The Foundation is committed to supporting connections and practical cooperation with China and engaging Australia's diverse community.

The Foundation's grants are an important demonstration of the Government's commitment to invest in people-to-people ties and practical cooperation between Australia and China.

The Foundation's programs and grants are supporting practical cooperation in a wide range of fields across greater China and Australia. This includes strengthening collaboration in the health and ageing sectors, scientific exchanges, cooperation on emissions technologies and engagement with Australia's diverse Chinese communities and international students.

In this grants round, the Foundation has awarded over $4 million across 43 projects including:

  • an interactive online program for paediatric health professionals in rural China presented by Sydney Children's Hospitals' specialists in newborn care, behaviour and development, medical systems and adolescent medicine;
  • establishment of a platform for collaboration between Australian and Chinese experts and businesses on emerging low emissions technologies (Australian National University).
  • support for the establishment of the Monash-West China Diabetes Research and Development Centre for diabetes research, including on new onset diabetes in COVID-19 patients;
  • participation of Chinese artists in exhibitions at the Art Gallery of Western Australia and the Asia-Pacific Triennial at the Queensland Art Gallery; and
  • Under the Sky, a two-year program of new theatrical works, performed in Australia and China through collaboration with Chinese and Australian performers (Finucane & Smith).

The list of successful grant recipients is available on the Foundation's website: www.australiachinafoundation.org.au.

The Foundation has previously awarded over $4 million in grants to projects supporting business capability, strengthening engagement in the health and ageing sectors, covid-related research, cultural and scientific exchanges, and providing a digital platform to support the wellbeing of Chinese speaking international students.

I am also pleased to announce that the Foundation has opened a new grants round with a focus on people-to-people links, communities and cooperation between Australia and China on environmental management, climate change and the transition to low emissions technologies. Information about this grant opportunity can also be found on the Foundation's website.
