MIKTA Foreign Ministers’ Statement on the Third Inter-Korean Summit

  • Media release

Foreign Ministers of Mexico, Indonesia, the Republic of Korea, Turkey and Australia (MIKTA) welcome the success of the third Inter-Korean Summit held from September 18 to 20 in Pyongyang.

We take note that this summit served as an important milestone to realize the vision of 'the Korean Peninsula free from the dangers of war,' and expressed hope for complete denuclearization and the establishment of a permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula. We believe such positive developments on the Peninsula will ultimately contribute to ensuring regional and global peace.

We welcome the ROK's efforts to achieve lasting peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and underline the importance of full and expeditious implementation of the 'Pyongyang Joint Declaration' adopted at this summit, which confirms the common goal of complete denuclearization and stipulates measures to defuse military tension on the Korean Peninsula.

In this context, we strongly support the ROK's ongoing diplomatic efforts to resolve the North Korean nuclear issue and establish permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula, which will lay a foundation for a more peaceful and prosperous region in the future.
