High Commissioner to Niue
Today I announce the appointment of Ms Louise Ellerton as Australia’s next High Commissioner to Niue.
Australia's Pacific Step-up places people at the heart of our Pacific partnerships. Australia and Niue enjoy a friendly relationship based on close community links, participation in Pacific regional organisations and shared support for an open, resilient and inclusive Indo-Pacific region.
Our relationship with Niue deepened further with the opening of Australia’s High Commission in Alofi, in 2020.
Under the Pacific Step-up, Australia is working more closely than ever with Pacific partners, including Niue, to address regional challenges, including the health and economic impacts of COVID-19.
Ms Ellerton is a career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and was most recently Acting Director, Border Policy and Strategy Section, COVID-19 Coordination Unit. She has previously served overseas in Honiara. In Canberra she has served in a range of development and aid governance related roles.
Ms Ellerton holds a Graduate Diploma of Education; a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours); and a Bachelor of Commerce, from Monash University.
I thank former High Commissioner Susan Allen for her contributions to advancing Australia’s interests in Niue since 2020.
