High Commissioner to Malaysia

  • Media release

Today I announce the appointment of Dr Justin Lee as Australia’s next High Commissioner to Malaysia.

Malaysia and Australia are long-standing friends and natural partners. Australia values Malaysia’s support for our engagement with ASEAN, which remains at the heart of our vision for an open, inclusive and resilient Indo-Pacific.

In 2021, the relationship was elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

We are expanding our cooperation to address our region’s most pressing challenges, collaborating on economic recovery from COVID-19, the digital economy, health, mental health, education, multilateral engagement, including through the Commonwealth, and in new areas of science and innovation.

Dr Lee is a senior career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and was most recently First Assistant Secretary, Multilateral Policy Division.

He has previously served overseas as Head of Mission in Bangladesh; Deputy Head of Mission in Jakarta; and in Port Moresby.

Dr Lee holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Development Studies) and a Bachelor of Arts (Jurisprudence) (Honours) from Adelaide University; and a Graduate Diploma in Foreign Affairs and Trade from Monash University.

I thank outgoing High Commissioner Andrew Goledzinowski AM for his contributions to advancing Australia’s interests in Malaysia since 2018.
