Consul-General in Shenyang
Today I announce the appointment of Mr Broughton Robertson as Australia's new Consul-General in Shenyang.
This new Consulate-General, our fifth in China, will support new opportunities for Australian business and deliver on the Government's commitment to enhance Australia's diplomatic network across Asia.
Shenyang is a major hub of commerce and industry in the north-eastern region of China, which has a population of over 114 million. Our Consulate-General will promote Australian interests in this important region. It will also bolster cultural and community links with China's three north-eastern provinces, and once fully operational, provide consular and other services to Australians.
Mr Robertson is a career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and was most recently Director, China Political and External Section.
Mr Robertson holds a Master of Law (Chinese and Comparative), Hong Kong City University; a Master of International Law, Australian National University; a Master of Letters (East Asian Studies), Australian National University; and a Bachelor of Arts, Auckland University.
