Ambassador to Serbia

  • Media release

Today I announce the appointment of Mr Daniel Emery as Australia’s next Ambassador to Serbia. Mr Emery will also be accredited to Montenegro and North Macedonia.

Australia enjoys positive bilateral relationships with all three countries, underpinned by enduring community and cultural ties. Over 175,000 Australians claim ancestry from the region.

We look forward to expanding our trade and investment relationships, with strong potential for growth in the mining and IT sectors. Australia’s total two-way trade with Serbia in 2019-20 was $149 million. We continue to support the European integration efforts of all three countries.

Mr Emery is a career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and was most recently Chargé d’Affaires, Australian Embassy, Zagreb. He has previously served overseas as Deputy Head of Mission, Australian Embassy, Ankara, and well as postings in Seoul and Moscow.

Mr Emery holds a Master of Laws from the Australian National University; a Bachelor of Arts; and a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from Adelaide University.

I thank outgoing Ambassador Ruth Stewart for her contributions to advancing Australia’s interests in Serbia since 2018.
