Ambassador to Cambodia

  • Media release

Today I announce the appointment of Mr Pablo Kang as Australia’s next Ambassador to Cambodia.

Cambodia is an important regional partner to Australia and we cooperate in multinational fora, including in efforts to address challenges such as people smuggling, terrorism and transnational crime.

Cooperation on education, through the Australia Awards and the New Colombo Plan, has provided opportunities to thousands of students from Australia and Cambodia.

The Cambodian community in Australia, numbering over 60,000, makes a valuable contribution to our multicultural society.

Mr Kang is a senior career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and was most recently Assistant Secretary of the Pacific Infrastructure Branch. He has previously served overseas as Ambassador to United Arab Emirates and High Commissioner to Vanuatu.

Mr Kang holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) and a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from the University of Sydney, and a Graduate Diploma in Arts (Foreign Affairs and Trade) from Monash University.

I thank outgoing Ambassador Ms Angela Corcoran for her contributions to advancing Australia’s interests in Cambodia since 2016.
