Visit to New Zealand

I will visit Auckland from 21 to 22 October to further deepen and broaden Australia's relationship with one of our closest geographic neighbours and strategic partners.

We enjoy a special relationship with New Zealand and share a unique regional perspective, strong economic and people-to-people links, and a common outlook on many issues of global concern.

During my visit I will hold talks with New Zealand Foreign Minister Murray McCully on expanding our bilateral relationship, including the reinvigoration of the Single Economic Market.

We will discuss enhancing our cooperation to create a more stable, prosperous and sustainable Pacific region, as well as global security issues including counter terrorism strategies and the Middle East.

As New Zealand's UN Security Council term draws to a close, we will discuss key challenges facing the Security Council and the important contribution New Zealand has made to its work.

I will also meet both the Australian women's and men's rugby teams, the Wallaroos and the Wallabies, and wish them the best of luck in their historic double-header at Eden Park on Saturday.
