Terrorist attack in Afghanistan
The Australian Government condemns in the strongest possible terms the horrifying attack carried out in Kabul on 31 May.
This appalling act has killed at least 89 people, and injured hundreds more.
We extend our deepest sympathies to the families and friends of those who lost their lives, and to the people of Afghanistan.
This attack highlights the continuing threat from terrorist organisations to the people of Afghanistan, and to the international community.
We will continue to work with the Government of Afghanistan, and with other members of the international community, to assist their efforts to ensure that the Afghan people can live their lives in peace and security.
The Australian Embassy in Kabul is monitoring the situation closely, and is in contact with local authorities to determine if any Australians were affected by the blast. At this stage, local authorities have not indicated that any Australians have been affected.
