MH17 Interim Findings
The independent Joint Investigation Team (JIT) has presented the interim findings of the criminal investigation into the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17. Significant progress has been made in this ongoing investigation.
The JIT countries – Australia, the Netherlands, Malaysia, Ukraine and Belgium – are united in their resolve to ensure those responsible are held to account. Together with our JIT partners, Australia is carefully considering the prosecution options available.
It is essential the international community continue to support the criminal investigation.
Australia calls on those states that can assist to fully cooperate with the investigation and prosecution, in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2166 (2014).
While we cannot take away the grief of those who lost their loved ones that day, we can do everything possible to ensure justice is done independently, fairly and transparently.
We will continue working to ensure that all the facts are known and justice is achieved for affected families, and the preservation of a rules-based international order.
