Establishment of an Advisory Group on Business and Human Rights

Today I announce the establishment of a Multi-Stakeholder Advisory Group on the Implementation of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.

The UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, adopted unanimously by the Human Rights Council in 2011, are a set of guidelines for States and companies to prevent, address and remedy human rights abuses committed in business operations.

The Advisory Group will provide expert advice to support government and business to work together to improve human rights, including a review of existing laws, policies and best practices relevant to the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.

Members of the Advisory Group represent a broad range of perspectives and have been drawn from across business sectors and civil society.

The members of the Advisory Group are: Ms Keren Adams, Ms Rachel Ball, Ms Rosemary Bissett, Mr Richard Boele, Mr Shane Boladeras, Dr David Cooke, Ms Alice Cope, Ms Jennie George, Mr Dick Grozier, Ms Tania Hudson, Prof David Kinley, Mrs Fiona McLeod, Ms Aleta Moriarty, Ms Rivkah Nissim, Prof Justine Nolan, Ms Brynn O'Brien, Prof Paul Redmond, Ms Sonya Rand, Ms Melissa Stewart, Ms Margaret Stuart, Mr Ben Walker, and Ms Vanessa Zimmerman.

The Advisory Group will report to the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
