Council for Australian-Arab Relations 2016-17 Grants

Today I announce the recipients of 12 new grants funded by the Council for Australian-Arab Relations (CAAR).

The CAAR seeks to broaden and strengthen relations between Australia and the Arab world. This round of grants totals over $300,000 and supports the Government's public and economic diplomacy goals.

The successful projects include:

  • Arab Film Festival Australia will host its annual Festival in 2017, expanding to Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth;
  • An exhibition partnership between the Royal Heritage Directorate of Jordan and the Australian War Memorial, which will highlight Australia's involvement in the Great Arab Revolt (1916-18) during 2016 centenary commemorations in Jordan;
  • Indigenous dance troupe Djuki Mala, which toured the Middle East for the first time in July 2016, performing in Cairo, Beirut and Tel Aviv;
  • World of Women (WOW) Film Fair will host its annual Film Fair in Dubai in 2017;
  • Media internships for 18 Australian journalism students at media agencies across the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Jordan; and
  • Health and education skills exchanges between Australia and Tunisia and Saudi Arabia, hosted by Canberra Institute of Technology and Federation University Australia, respectively.
