Australia-Korea Foundation 2017-18 grants

Today I announce the recipients of 31 new grants funded by the Australia-Korea Foundation (AKF).

The AKF grants program strengthens links between Australia and the Republic of Korea by supporting activities that promote mutual understanding and stronger relations. This year's grants fund initiatives in areas including agriculture, sport, education, creative industries, science and technology.

Successful AKF grant proposals and their recipients include:

  • A program for North Korean defector students to develop their English language skills (UTS: INSEARCH);
  • A program for Australian and Korean fashion designers to share expertise by collaborating on design, production and distribution (Queensland University of Technology);
  • A project to share technology development that will allow delivery of accurate soil and climate information to farmers (The University of Sydney);
  • A project to identify, share and develop novel concepts in business computing (University of Canberra);
  • A documentary of a war widow's efforts to educate Australians about the Korean War using her husband's story (Mr Jacques Sheard); and
  • Reciprocal industry workshops and field trips for food and tourism partnership development in Seoul and Adelaide (University of South Australia).

The AKF was established in 1992 to increase Australia's business, academic, cultural and bilateral engagement with the Republic of Korea. Today's announcement builds on the 46 grant recipients announced in August 2016.
