Foreign Minister Julie Bishop will welcome Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, Leader of the National League for Democracy (NLD), to Australia from 27 November to 2 December 2013.
Australia has long been a staunch supporter of Aung San Suu Kyi's efforts to bring democracy to the Burmese people.

Australia is providing practical support for ongoing political and economic reforms, including support for basic and higher education. Aung San Suu Kyi is the Chair of the parliament's Rule of Law and Tranquillity Committee and the Yangon University Revitalization Committee.
While in Australia, Aung San Suu Kyi will visit Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne where she will attend a number of public events and meet members of the Burmese community.
"Having first met Daw Aung San Suu Kyi in 1995, I am delighted to be able to welcome her to Australia," she said.
