ANZAC Day: Traveller preparations

  • Media release

More than 15,000 Australians plan to attend overseas events commemorating the 100th anniversary of the ANZAC Day landings at Gallipoli, with services in Turkey, France, Belgium, Malaysia, Thailand and Papua New Guinea.

I urge Australians planning to attend such events to read the ANZAC Day Smartraveller bulletins issued by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, in conjunction with the country travel advisories.

Australians travelling overseas should register their travel and contact details with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and subscribe to Smartraveller to receive travel advice and travel bulletin updates by e-mail. Travellers are encouraged to take out comprehensive travel insurance.

Major updates to travel advice and travel bulletins are posted on the Smartraveller Facebook page and on twitter via @Smartraveller.

Further information on how to prepare and what to expect when attending services is available on the Department of Veterans' Affairs website.

The 100th anniversary of the ANZAC Day landings is a significant event for all Australians, as we pause to remember the horror of war and honour the sacrifices of our servicemen and women. It is important that those travelling overseas take every appropriate step to ensure their safety and security.
