1400 Australia Awards Fellows in 2015

The 2015 Australia Awards Fellowships program will support more than 1400 Fellows from 67 countries to undertake short term study, research and professional development.

These Fellowships will support current and emerging leaders from developing countries to undertake short term study, research and professional development in Australia for up to 12 months.

Fellowships promote development, build capacity and strengthen people-to-people ties between Australia and developing countries in our region.

Forty six Australian organisations will host Fellowships in 2015 in fields ranging from education, agriculture, disaster management, cultural development, nursing and midwifery, leadership and fisheries.

For example, TAFE Queensland will host 10 women leaders from PNG's Department of Higher Education as part of a program to strengthen technical and vocational training for women and girls in PNG.

Royal Darwin Hospital will support two female doctors from Timor-Leste who will each spend six months receiving paediatric training and Cricket Australia will host six Fellows from Fiji, PNG, Samoa and Vanuatu, to mobilise participation in sport and promote health and education.
This year the Fellowships have been awarded to 742 females and 699 males, 86 per cent of whom are from Asia, the Pacific or Papua New Guinea.

The Fellowships complement the Government's commitment to strengthening people-to-people links under the New Colombo Plan, which is supporting thousands of young Australian undergraduates to study and undertake internships in the region.
