I extend my sincere thanks to Rt Hon William Hague MP for his distinguished service as UK Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs.

Mr Hague has been an outstanding Foreign Secretary over the last four years, working tirelessly to advance democracy, human rights and the rules-based international order.

He has played a key role in the close alliance and cooperation between our nations, including the current challenges facing international and our respective domestic security.

I am pleased Mr Hague will be continuing his work on the Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative (PSVI), for which I am honoured to act as ‘champion’.

Mr Hague visited Australia on several occasions, most recently for the Australia-UK Ministerial Consultations (AUKMIN) in Perth in 2013.

At our last meeting in London in March, I was reminded of his passion for foreign policy and the depth of experience he brought to the role of Foreign Secretary.

I wish Mr Hague well in his new role as Leader of the House of Commons, and for his retirement at the next UK general election.
