Media release

26 June 2013

Australia's 100th resident diplomatic mission has opened today (June 26, 2013) with the accreditation of Manuel Alfredo Gutiérrez Ruiz as El Salvador's first resident Ambassador to Australia.

Together with non-resident diplomatic missions, consular posts and international organisations, Australia now hosts around 5,500 members of the diplomatic and consular community.

Senator Carr said he welcomed the appointment of Ambassador Gutiérrez Ruiz as Australia and El Salvador celebrate their 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2013.

El Salvador became the first resident Central American Embassy and the 12th Latin American Embassy in Canberra when it opened in 2012.
