Foreign Minister Bob Carr today condemned a bomb attack in Beirut in which at least three people were killed and over 80 more were injured.

Among those killed yesterday was the Lebanese Internal Security Forces Information Bureau Director, Wissam al-Hassan.

"This barbaric act of terrorism deserves global condemnation," Senator Carr said.

"Our thoughts are with the families and friends of those killed and injured, and with the Lebanese people.

"This act was intended to promote fear and disunity within Lebanon and contribute to existing instability in the region.

"Such intentions must be condemned and those responsible brought to justice."
