Update on Melinda Taylor

Media Release

17 June 2012

Minister for Foreign Affairs, Senator Bob Carr today met with Libyan Foreign Minister Ashour bin Khayal in Istanbul, to directly press for the release of Australian lawyer Melinda Taylor.

Senator Carr said he understood that Ms Taylor had also met with a Libyan investigator and lawyers from the International Criminal Court, in Zintan in the last 24 hours.

The meeting is part of an investigation into allegations of breaches of Libyan national security, made against Ms Taylor and her team following a meeting with the son of former Libyan ruler Muammar Gaddafi.

There is strong international support for Ms Taylor's release, including from European Governments and the United Nations Security Council.
