Australia-China Council Awards
I am pleased to have been able to recognise the outstanding contribution made to Australia-China relations by four Australian and four Chinese citizens in the fields of culture, business, science and technology and community.
An initiative of the Australia-China Council, the awards were presented at a ceremony in Adelaide today on the occasion of the twenty-seventh anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Australia and China on 21 December 1972.
On the Australian side, awards were presented to Professor Colin Mackerras (culture), Mr Brooks Wilson AM (business), Dr Albert Wai-Hing Mau (science and technology) and Professor Stephen FitzGerald AO (community).
On the Chinese side, awards were presented to Professor Hu Wenzhong (culture), Mr Qin Xiao (business), Professor Jiang Zaifang (science and technology) and His Excellency Mr Zhu Qizhen (community).
I congratulate the award recipients on their recognition and
for the significant role they have played in fostering people-to-people
relations between Australia and China as well as expanding the
range of contacts between our countries that complement and underpin
