Appointment of New Director General of AusAID
I have today announced the appointment of Mr Bruce Davis as the Director General-designate of the Australian Agency for International Development, AusAID.
Mr Davis is currently acting in the Director General position. He will be taking over the position from Mr Trevor Kanaley who unfortunately is in ill health.
Mr Davis brings to the position a wealth of experience in the Australian Public Service and the international development co-operation field. He joined ADAA (now AusAID) in 1975 and has served with distinction in a range of positions. From 1990 to 1993 Mr Davis was seconded as Deputy Secretary-General, Forum Secretariat, Suva. Since 1993 he has held senior policy, program and corporate positions across the Agency. He has been acting Director General since 1998.
Mr Davis was born in Ipswich in 1953 and has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Queensland.
As Director General, Mr Davis will be responsible for the management of Australia's international development co-operation program, worth in excess of $1.5 billion. He assumes the position at a time when the program is responding to significant development challenges in our region and globally
